Hub Bearing, Wheel Hub Bearings

A hub bearing, also known as a wheel bearing, is a crucial component of a vehicle's suspension system. Hub Bearings (Wheel Hub Bearings) support the hub on the axle or spindle and ensure that the wheel stays in the proper position as it rolls down the road. Bearings are part of common maintenance on all vehicles and should be regularly checked.

There are two types of bearings: hub bearings and wheel bearings (Wheel Hub Bearings). Both employ the same physical characteristics of a bearing in that they house bearing spheres that are lubricated for spinning to allow the wheel to rotate.

A major difference between the hub bearings and wheel hub bearings is how they are assembled. Wheel bearings can be taken apart, lubricated and reassembled to be used again. Hub bearings are prepacked at the manufacturer's factory and are sold and installed as a complete unit. These cannot be taken apart for re-lubrication, but must be replaced.

Proper care and observation are necessities in keeping bearings lubricated and safe for use. If grinding noises are ignored or regular maintenance of the bearings is put off, lubrication can breakdown and allow the bearings to overheat or break.

Typically, if a hub bearing fails, you will notice a grinding or a...other noticeable sound going in a certain direction. Usually if you're turning to the right and you hear a grinding noise on the left, that means that your left hub bearing is worn out. And likewise, if you're turning to the left and you hear a noise coming from the right wheel bearing -- a grinding noise or the like -- the most likely symptom or cause is the wheel bearing on the right hand side.

Sooner or later, all vehicles' wheel bearings, also known as hub bearings, will need to be replaced. They are important to any vehicle and if they fall out of alignment, it could lead to serious damage.

What's hub bearing or wheel hub bearings replacement costs?

This could cost you upwards of 200.00 to 600.00 dollars, but It depends on if the problem is just the bearing or the tie-rods and other items.

Should they need to be replaced, they are available from a variety of sources.
